As I watched the 2009 Club Red Delegates jump out of their cars with pillows and sleeping bags in hand, I thought of my first Retreat. I was scared to death. I have to sleep in a cabin? Will everyone like me? How far do I have to walk to get to a shower? Is that a bear!!!! Luckily the Delegates were way more mature than I was in high school or really good at hiding their nervousness. (After spending the weekend with them, I’m going with the maturity factor.) This year at Club Red, 24 high school students proved that they could learn leadership skills and make a difference in their life and the world! Some highlights from the weekend…
- Giants, Wizards, Trolls (the craziest version of Rock, Paper, Scissors ever invented)
- FISH – Attitude is Everything!
- Getting away from those evil sharks in Survivor!
- Ethics – Oh Bono.
- Night Hike – Don’t get lost!
- The super secret Club Red handshake.
- The Indiana Jones Bridge.
- Who’s alarm is that???
During the weekend, Delegates participated in almost 20 different leadership activities. With the guidance of our super hero Counselors, Delegates learned about ethics, diversity, goal setting, cultural appreciation, team work, communication and much, much more. And somewhere in there, everyone managed to make some stellar friends and have an awesome time!
